Untreated missing teeth can take a toll on both your self-esteem and your dental health. However, dentures can help you fill in your denturesgaps, make eating and chewing easier, and prevent future dental problems. Find out what dentures can do for you with your dentist at Lakeshore Dentistry and Implant Center in Holland, MI.

Types of Dentures

  • Full Dentures: For patients missing all of their teeth, full dentures replace an entire arch of teeth in one fell swoop. Most full dentures rely on gravity or suction to stay in place.
  • Partial Dentures: Partial dentures use any remaining natural teeth to anchor the denture into place. The teeth fit through the denture, giving the denture added support.
  • Immediate Dentures: Some patients require extraction of the remaining natural teeth before wearing dentures. A dental laboratory prepares immediate dentures before the extraction appointment, allowing the patient to walk out of their dentist’s office with a new smile. Additionally, immediate dentures protect the extractions sites during the healing process.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: Dentists may recommend implant-supported dentures for patients with adequate bone volume left in their mouth. Implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone and, as they heal, integrate into the bone permanently. The implants provide a sturdy foundation upon which a permanent or removable denture can sit.

Your Holland dentist can help you determine the best type of denture for you.

Why should I consider dentures?
Missing all or most of your teeth can hurt both your dental and general health. Being unable to chew correctly can lead to digestive issues. Additionally, dentures allow you to enjoy the foods you love. Dentures also fill out sagging facial muscles due to bone atrophy. Having a smile you love boosts confidence and makes social interactions less awkward and more enjoyable. Additionally, teeth tend to drift until they hit something. Dentures keep your healthy teeth in their correct positions, preventing shifting.
